Colonial Williamsburg’s African American Interpretation Program is the oldest and largest program of its kind in the country. The institution of Black slavery in America may evoke thoughts of men and women laboring in fields, or perhaps an image of a slave quarter set back from a large mansion. But slavery existed in America's cities and not just its plantations. Please join our historic interpreters Janice Canaday and Linwood Tyson for a discussion about the enslaved men, women, and children who made up half of the population of Williamsburg in the 1770s HERE.
