“Is not the fair fabric of Society itself, whereby, from nakedness and dismemberment, we are organized into Polities, into nations, and a whole co-operating Mankind, the creation of the Tailor alone?” In a population of 2,000 people, 18th century Williamsburg was home to perhaps 75 tailors, making it the most widely practiced trade in town.
