We at Monticello are saddened by yesterday’s passing of civil rights icon, the Honorable John Lewis. Mr. Lewis fought tirelessly against injustice and championed freedom and equality for all people. In 2015, we had the honor of welcoming Mr. Lewis to Monticello as the recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Citizen Leadership. Like countless others who had the privilege of hearing Mr. Lewis speak, his remarks remain with us and continue to provoke thought and inspiration HERE. We offer our sincerest condolences to Mr. Lewis’ family, and all who mourn his loss.
