From the “Songs to Zion” and “Where Will I Find You?” by Yehudah Halevi, to “Good Friday, 1613,” and “Riding Westward” by John Donne, the longing for Divine Love possessed the Medieval imagination. Yehudah Halevi was a Spanish Jewish physician, poet, and philosopher, considered one of the greatest Hebrew poets. The later-born John Donne is the preeminent representative of the metaphysical poets, whose works are noted for their metaphorical and sensual style.
