The First American Veterans

  • The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Williamsburg, VA USA (map)

The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783) was initiated by delegates from the thirteen American colonies in Congress against Great Britain over their objection to Parliament's taxation policies and lack of colonial representation. Fighting broke out on April 19, 1775 when the British garrison at Boston was engaged by Massachusetts militia at Lexington and Concord. In June of that year, the Second Continental Congress appointed George Washington to create a Continental Army and lead the resistance. Please join Colonial Williamsburg’s professional interpreters from the Military Programs Team to learn about the lives of Revolutionary War soldiers during and after the war.
